Founding Members

Prof. Xavier Golay

Xavier is a former Professor of MRI Physics at UCL since June 2023, and is a world-renowned MRI specialist with nearly 30 years’ experience in R&D in the field of MRI, from new imaging techniques to the development of contrast agents. Xavier co-founded both Imgenious and Gold Standard Phantoms together with Aaron and Tom and he recently took the helm of GSP full time, after 15 years at UCL. his role is to oversee the whole operation at GSP and in particular to help to provide the support and network necessary to such a small enterprise. Xavier currently retains an honorary appointment with UCL.

Dr. Aaron Oliver-Taylor

Aaron is an MRI physicist with close to 15 years experience working in MRI. He holds a Ph.D. in MRI physics from University College London, and prior to founding GSP built all manner of MRI related hardware, from RF coils and transmitter systems to MR compatible physiological monitoring systems. Whether it is cooking up new phantom formulations in the wet lab, soldering a circuit board, or writing some image analysis code, he likes to be as hands-on as possible. As Chief Technical Officer, Aaron drives forward technological development within GSP; leading R&D of new products, improving current ones, managing scientific collaborations, as well as juggling production, operational and customer-facing activities.

Dr. Tom Hampshire

Tom provides GSP with expertise in computational research and software development having completed his BSc in Computer Science at the University of Manchester and receiving an MRes and PhD in Medical Imaging Computing at University College London. As Chief Information Officer, he oversees development of the computational aspects of GSP’s technologies, in addition to supporting the IT infrastructure within the organisation.
